Boppard & Bonn

September 4, 2021

The regional tour for exchange students started at 1:15. We first drove to Boppard on a non-air conditioned bus on a very hot day wearing masks the whole time. When we arrived in the city, there was not much to do or see since it was a small area. We walked along the Rhine and then went into the city square, where they had a Rwandan culture festival. We watched some drummers and dancers after entering a church. 





After the hour of exploring was up, we walked along the river to get back to the bus. 




Our next destination was a vineyard, where we went on a tour. 






The next stop was Koblenz for dinner. Everyone was so relieved to finally be done in the sun. I had apple juice and schnitzel with French fries, a genius German dish. I was with 2 friends and we had some extra time before the bus left, so we walked along the Rhine and the sunset was beautiful.


I slept insanely well after a long day in the sun.


September 5, 2021

I went to mass with my 2 Catholic friends and then Hubert convinced Lauren and me to go to Bonn with a group of other exchange students. At first, we were hesitant because there was no plan and no organization at all. But we decided to be spontaneous and go anyway since my only other plan for the day was to go for a walk around Vallendar. So I went back to my apartment and ate lunch then met the group at the bus stop. We took a bus to Koblenz and then hopped on a train to Bonn.

We had a great time walking around the city. Hubert, our fearless leader, took us all around based on his intuition, so I really have no idea what we saw. I did, however, try German McDonald's because I wanted to try it once. Shockingly, I like American McDonald's more AND it's so expensive in Europe!!!! It was another hot and sunny day, so on the train ride back it was difficult to stay awake. Overall, a great day.

      it's also less flavorful in Germany than in the US

    I didn't try McDonald's in Denmark, but Matt did go to Burger King pretty frequently and apparently it was pretty good! And pretty cheap, which is why he kept going haha. Do they have Max Burger anywhere? I think it's a Swedish place and I really liked their food

      I haven't seen a Max Burger!! I might have to try Burger King lol but Burger King in the US is nasty

September 10, 2021 The day started out like any other...I drank about 6 cups of coffee. Just kidding, I actually did drink the 6 cups of coffee but that is not the norm for me. However, I was extremely productive haha. The explanation? Hostels in Frankfurt for tonight were too expensive, so Lauren and I decided to take a midnight train from Koblenz to Frankfurt for our 6 am flight. So we hopped on a bus to Koblenz. September 11, 2021 We got on our midnight train to Frankfurt (while on board may or may not have booked a flight and hostel for Milan), tried to find our way to the other terminal for a good 30 minutes, went through security, and sat at our gate for 3 hours. We got a pretzel for breakfast before boarding. Although we were at the front of the non-priority line, we were not aware of an entry form that had to be filled out for Greece and had to race against the clock to finish it before they closed the gate. Warsaw, Poland!!

October 6, 2021 *during a 3 hour lecture* Lauren: what are you doing from Sunday to Wednesday? Me: nothing Lauren: we should go somewhere Me: ok *an hour and a half later the flight gets booked* October 10, 2021 You know the drill, we took a bus to Koblenz, a train to the Cologne airport, and a plane to Warsaw. While in the Cologne airport, we stopped at the grocery store to get some pre-flight pretzel croissants and paired it with some ham that I had brought from home haha. Then we went to find our gate and quickly got through security. For the first time, we actually had a flight during the day!! Landing at 4pm?? Seeing the city and trying to figure out how to get from the airport to our hostel (bus, train, then 30 minute walk) in daylight??
